  ಪ್ರಜಾತಂತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಕು: ರಾಜಿ-ಸಂಧಾನದಂತೆ ಧೃಢತೆ-ಸ್ಥಿರತೆ ಸಿ ಟಿ ಜೋಷಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಚ ರ್ಚೆ, ಕೊಡಕೊಳುಗೆ ಇವು ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವದ ಜೀವಾಳ. ಆದರೆ ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆಯಾದರೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸರಕಾರ ವಿವಾದಗ್ರಸ್ತ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ  ಕಠಿಣವೆನಿಸಿದರೂ ಧೃಢವಾಗಿರಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದರಿಂದ ಏನೆಲ್ಲ ತೃಪ್ತಿಕರವಾಗಿ ಸಾಧಿಸಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಒಮ್ಮೆ  ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳನ್ನು, ಭಿನ್ನಾಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬಗೆಹರಿಸಲು ಅನೇಕ ಸಲ ರಾಜಿ- ಸಂಧಾನ ಇವು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಅದಾಗ್ಯೂ ಶಿಸ್ತು-ಸ್ಥಿರತೆಗಳು ಕೂಡ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಎಂದೂ ತೋರಿಸಿತು. 1996-97 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಗದವರು ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬಹಿಷ್ಕರಿಸಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಭಾವನೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಬೇಕೆಂಬುದು ಅವರ ಆಗ್ರಹವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆಗ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಚಿವರು ಬಿ ಸೋಮಶೇಖರ. ಧೃಢತೆಗೆ, ಬಿಗಿತನಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಸರಾದವರು. ನಿಯತ್ತಿಗೂ, ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಗೂ, ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆಗೂ  ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಹೆಸರಾದವರು. ರಾಜಕೀಯ ನಾಯಕರು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ರಾಜಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ನಾನೊಮ್ಮೆ ನುಡಿದಿದ್ದೆ. ಆಗ ಸೋಮಶೇಖರ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು: ರಾಜಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆ ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಇರಲಾರವು. ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಯುವಕ ಯುವತಿಯರ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ವಿಷಯವಿದು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಧೆ ಬರುವ ಏನನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಕೂಡದು  ಎಂಬುದು ಅವರ ಅಚಲ ಅಭಿ ಪ್ರಾಯ.  ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳೂ ಅವರ ...

Tiruvadanai Shrine F our decades ago, on a hot summer day, I  happened to be in Tiruvadanai, Ramanathapuram District, Tamilnadu. It was soon after I got through my graduation in civil engineering. Tiruvadanai has been the destination earmarked for my stay of at least one year, to start off my career as overseer (professional title for civil engineers during those days).
